2021 P3A/Joseph Pettick Memorial Scholarship Awarded

Congratulations to Stefanie Bobetsis! Through uncovering the relationships between politics, religion, iconography, spirituality, immigration, and the modern world, her mixed media drawings uncover unique family and cultural history, unraveling both the hardships and successes of immigrating from Greece to Canada. Her work provides women with the opportunity to voice their experiences and be represented both visually and through language. Her new series focuses on her grandmother’s journey from Greece to Canada through a triptych. Each image is titled and inspired by poems her grandmother wrote during her immigration. Stefanie’s goal was to place her grandmother within the Greek Orthodox space through iconography, which is usually represented by male figures.

Image One Title: Childhood Years; Image Two Title: Trip to the Unknown; Image Three Title: Birth Place
Medium: Graphite and chalk pastel on BFK paper mounted onto plywood; Size: 2.5ft x 3ft (each).
